Be Still And Know 2

Psalms 46:10: Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.

I believe that be still and know are two commands. I don*t believe they are suggestions and I don*t believe they are just God*s wishes. Anyway, His slightest wish should be our command. I believe that He has commanded us to know three things, that He is God, that He will be exalted among the heathen and that He will be exalted on the earth. (in our lives)

The first command is to be still. There is the implication in that command that if we are not still we will not know that He is God or the other two things. If we are to know that He is God we will need some stillness. There will be no stillness in the hustle and bustle of life. There will be no stillness in the incessant noise of a TV set, a grocery store or a mall. There will be no stillness when you are sitting next to or in a rumbling auto or truck.

Multitudes in the world around us cannot seem to stand a moment of stillness. I believe that is a symptom of the lost and perhaps of unfruitful Christians. I believe there is stillness to be found in waiting upon the Lord and meditating upon Him and His Word, the Bible. There are many benefits that come to us when we are still and know and when we wait upon Him or Meditate on Him.

Psalms 37:9: For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth.

Psalms 123:2: Behold, as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters, and as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress; so our eyes wait upon the LORD our God, until that he have mercy upon us.

Isaiah 40:31: But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Jeremiah 14:22: Are there any among the vanities of the Gentiles that can cause rain? or can the heavens give showers? art not thou he, O LORD our God? therefore we will wait upon thee: for thou hast made all these things.

Zephaniah 3:8: Therefore wait ye upon me, saith the LORD, until the day that I rise up to the prey: for my determination is to gather the nations, that I may assemble the kingdoms, to pour upon them mine indignation, even all my fierce anger: for all the earth shall be devoured with the fire of my jealousy.

Psalms 1:1: Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. 2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. 3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. 4 The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. 5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. 6 For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

If you do not delight in the Bible, being still with God, meditating on His Word and waiting upon Him you will not be blessed and you will not delight in much of anything else. The bold verses of the passage will not be about you. The last three verses will. Take your pick.
